St Bonaventure’s College is a new Prep to Grade 12 Catholic school, within the ever- growing city of Flagstone. Master planned and designed by Macksey Rush Architects, this new greenfield school combines the positive opportunities of the existing site with the mission of Brisbane Catholic Education, to create an environment that benefits both the college as well as the greater Flagstone community.

The masterplan takes in panoramic views of the mountains to the south-west, and captures breezes and southern views across the school to the treetops beyond. Teaching & Learning buildings are arranged as Learning Neighbourhoods, each providing interconnection of buildings and outdoor learning experiences to be seamlessly incorporated into the education pedagogy. Playful architectural forms vary between buildings to give visual interest and differentiation, but visually connect with a common material language.

The formal civic buildings at the top of the site, including a Student Hub with administration facilities, bring the school together in covered central areas; a multipurpose hall, a double- height library space, as well as opportunities to spill-out onto the Central Green terraced lawn.

A central axis connects the Senior Oval straight to the heart of the school at the top of the hill. This formal path, lined with an avenue of trees, provides circulation, strong view lines, and wayfinding benefits. Other important landscape features include an existing dry creek-bed woven into the early-year Learning Neighbourhood nature-play design, and existing trees providing shaded play and lunch spaces.

Designed as a staged construction, the layout and types of buildings constructed at various stages are thoughtfully chosen to provide a full school experience to all students, even as the campus and student numbers grow.
