This new three-story building for Marsden State School is located at the southern end of the school campus, replacing four relocatable buildings. It is positioned near key facilities, including the Small Amenities Block, Covered Play Area, Playground, Music Block, and staff car park. The building includes 16 general learning areas (GLAs), two specialist spaces, breakout areas, outdoor learning spaces, staff work rooms, storerooms, and amenities. The first floor accommodates specialist spaces and four GLAs, while the ground and second floor contain the remaining GLAs, and staff work rooms. Each floor has access to outdoor learning areas with collocated practical learning areas.
The building design emphasises flexibility, with GLAs arranged in pairs with operable walls between rooms to support adaptable learning environments. The central east-west corridor enhances natural ventilation and offers views out. Sustainability is central to the design, with elements that promote cross ventilation and minimise solar heat gain. Perforated metal screens conceal and reveal outdoor learning areas, while the building’s exterior features coloured panels and brise-soleil, adding depth and character. The materials and finishes are robust, durable, and appropriate for an educational setting.
