The Wellbeing Centre at St Augustine’s College facilitates the pedagogical focus on the health and wellbeing of the students and provides a central ‘control point’ for the sporting life of the school. The small complex is sited on the lower north-western corner of the 12ha site, adjacent to the two major sporting ovals.

The building responds to its pseudo-agrarian setting through its form and use of materials. It is conceived as a refined ‘shed’, clad in black corrugated steel and set in an isolated grassed landscape. The bright green elements speak both to the broader natural bushland landscape of the surrounding suburb and to the man-made landscape of the tennis courts and playing fields adjacent.

The Centre nestles into the natural topography of the site so as not to hinder views to the playing fields from the campus proper. The plan is composed of four separate elements (the ‘veranda’ space which includes a covered external area and the first aid centre, the ‘classroom’ space, the amenities and the storeroom) which are linked by a covered external colonnade. Each space is designed to operate independently, or the building as a whole.

The Wellbeing Centre at St Augustine’s College prioritizes student health and wellbeing while also serving the broader Augustine Heights community. Located near the school’s sporting ovals, the Centre includes playing courts accessible to community organizations, fostering a social hub. Its design consists of four independent, yet interconnected spaces linked by a covered colonnade. The building maximizes sustainability through natural ventilation, diffused lighting, rainwater harvesting, and low-energy materials. Clad in black corrugated steel with bright green accents, it reflects the surrounding landscape while maintaining harmony with adjacent structures. Thoughtfully integrated into the campus masterplan, the Centre enhances both educational and communal facilities.
